 The Dojo

"A dojo (道場, dōjō?) is a Japanese term which literally means "place of the way". The term can refer to a formal training place for any of the Japanese do arts but typically it is considered the formal gathering place for students of any Japanese martial arts style such as Ju-Jitsu and many other arts to conduct training, examinations and other related encounters" - Wikipedia

 Martial Arts

"Martial arts are codified systems and traditions of combat practices, which are practiced for a variety of reasons: self-defense, competition, physical health and fitness, entertainment, as well as mental, physical, and spiritual development." - Wikipedia

  Lifestyle Centre

"The Dojo" Benoni is a place of Martial Arts training combined with all the facilities to exercise and improve physical fitness.

 What is Ju-Jitsu?

Ju-Jitsu today is based on unarmed self-defence. The Art of using the traditional Japanese weapons is still practiced today, and is still considered to be beneficial to the skills base of the Ju Jitsu exponent. However, Ju-Jitsu is geared more towards the street situations in the local towns and cites of today's world. Situations that might be met on the violent streets of today might include; muggers, robbers, rapists, or simply thugs who consider perpetrating violence upon others as fun! Ju-Jitsu shows you how to use your body to defend yourself against attackers, with minimal effort and maximum effect. Strength need not be the prime consideration, as utilising locking techniques and knowing where and how to strike, will enable the student to act, and win. The self-confidence that comes with being ready, willing and able to protect yourself, becomes self evident to others, and the attacker is likely to seek out an easier target.

Our WhatsApp group is an information app ONLY.
Once again, please do not comment or reply in any

I would like to remind all our parents that students
are NOT to leave the dojo until a respective parent
has come to collect them from the dojo. Too many
children are running into the busy parking lot unattended
and we would hate for there to be an accident.

Message from Shihan Sam

Dear Students and Parents
Welcome back after a much needed mid year break. We hope that you have all had a great and mild winter thus far.
I would like to share this message which was sent to me from another parent about why they send their children to Ju-Jitsu.
“One of my friends asked “Why do you pay for your kids to do Ju-Jitsu?” Well I have a confession to make, I don’t pay for my kids martial arts. Personally, I am not that into Ju-Jitsu myself.
So, if I am not paying for Ju-Jitsu, what am I paying for?

I pay for those moments when my kids become so tired they want to   quit but don’t

I pay for those days when my kids come home from school and are “too tired” to go to their practice but go anyway.

I pay for my kids to learn to take care of their bodies.

I pay for my kids to learn to work with others and to be good team mates.

I pay for my kids to learn to deal with disappointment, when they go to tournaments but don’t get that medal they’d hoped for but still have to work hard in the preparation and competition.

I pay for my kids to learn to make and accomplish goals.

I pay for my kids to learn that it takes hours and hours and hours and hours of hard work and

practice to attain their next belt and that success does not happen overnight.

I pay for the opportunity my kids have and will have to make lifelong friendships.

I pay so that my kids can be in the dojo instead of in front of a screen.

I could go on but, to be short, I don’t pay for Ju-Jitsu, I pay for the opportunities that Ju-Jitsu provides my kids with to develop attributes that will serve them well throughout their lives and give them the oppor-tunity to bless the lives of others. From what I have seen so far, I think it is a great investment!”
This is such a great message. I am so pleased that many other parents feel that same way. We also have many parents that do participate in Ju-Jitsu and see the benefits for themselves.
If you are interested in starting Ju-Jitsu and perhaps even taking part in a class at the same time as your child /ren, then please chat to me about this as we now have a special time slot especially allocated to parents and children.
Remember that we do have gradings in September for those students grading from Red to Orange Belt 2..
